Chapel Hill Philharmonia Presents “New Bottles for Old Wine”

CHAPEL HILL, NC — Posted February 17, 2020

On Sunday, March 8, at 3:00 PM the Chapel Hill Philharmonia will play a program showcasing romantic music remodeled into newer exciting variations. Weber’s piano piece, “Invitation to the Dance,” as orchestrated by Berlioz and played by the CHP, becomes energetic and passionate. Hindemith over a century later created boisterous, thrilling, and memorable music in his “Symphonic Metamorphosis on Themes by Carl Maria von Weber.” An expanded CHP orchestra provides the enriched melodies and rhythmic excitement of this colorful symphony.

Conductor Donald Oehler also leads a smaller group, strings only, in a performance of Elgar’s lush “Serenade for Strings.” The concert will be in Moeser Auditorium on the UNC-CH campus. Admission is free.
